From 17 July to 26 October 2010 the exhibition "The Great World Theater. 90 Years of the Salzburg Festival" will be staged in the Kunsthalle of Salzburg Museum in co-operation with the Salzburg Festival and checkpointmedia AG.
 
Opera, drama and concerts will take centre stage as protagonists in the 90-year history of the Salzburg Festival: the phenomenon that is the Salzburg Festival will be presented using records, costumes, models and audiovisual media (photos, films, audio, multimedia presentations).
 
Ambivalence was a notable characteristic of the Salzburg Festival right from the start: it was traditional and modern, elitist and eclectic, Austrian and international, a major world stage and a small town. Prominent names, historical photographs, magnificent costumes, highly-detailed stage models, animated videos and multimedia installations offering deeper insights all reveal the many different productions with their stars and their opulence - both on stage and backstage. Visitors are allowed to discover the inner workings of the "world stage" not only from the outside but from the inside as well. As such they are no longer mere spectators, but insiders.
