"Linz. City in Luck" Exhibition in the Nordico - Museum, Linz

June 5 to Sep. 16, 2009 | http://www.stadt-im-glueck.at/

The exhibition transforms the City of Linz's Nordico Museum into a house with rooms that reflect on aspects of the city and its development over the last three decades - history as part of the present.

"Linz. City in Luck" sets out to track down clues to the recent past. In the Nordico Museum, around one hundred interviews with residents of Linz, records of important events, an analysis of various developments the city has undergone and a presentation of relevant artefacts merge into part of the collective memory of the town.
In order to convey a vivid visual image of everyday life in Linz, the exhibition is set in a mock-up of a house. In the children's room we find the perspectives of the children of the steel city; the living room contains the heavy armchairs of industry; in the study, negotiations on greater flexibility in the field of culture are under way and in the kitchen the European Capital of Culture gets itself ready. "Linz. City in Luck" covers eleven topics ranging from the development of the city's identity and the image of Linz - as typified in phrases such as "In Linz stinkt's" ("It stinks in Linz") or "Eine Stadt lebt auf" (roughly "A city on the up") - to the discussions on the nationalisation and privatisation of voestalpine AG and the phenomena of the youth culture movement.
