Project Details
"Ponte Mozart" was a project suggested for Vienna Mozart Year 2006 by Roman Delugan, Katrin Zechner and checkpointmedia, which would have linked Vienna's 1st and 2nd districts with each other for a year. A temporary link was to be constructed as a landmark connecting the 1st district, the location of the Imperial and National Theatre, to the 2nd district, in Mozart's day "a suburb devoted to public walks and the entertainment of the populace" Harking back to the sweeping boulevard bridges that once straddled the Donaukanal, exclusive shops and small restaurants were to have lined the bridge to add to the nostalgic mood. At night, laser beams in the form of a musical stave were to link the two half-cubes which each featured an observation platform. A multimedia concert hall with windows in the floor was planned for the bridge so that the water of the Donaukanal could be viewed from above.
